Well, it’s been a while! #2020amIright
This year has been full of twists and turns and ups and downs, and because of that, we’ve taken a bit of a break from posting on the ol’ blog. Working through processing the feelings that come along with a pandemic has been a journey in itself. With not being able to go out and explore our city, or travel, we’ve turned our attention to a lot of home projects. This is the year for it, right? Because we’ve all been home more than anywhere else.
So, I’m thrilled to share with you all something I (Cort) have been working on since late spring–our living room makeover reveal with Albany Park! And Christmas is my favorite time to shoot home content, so as a bonus, enjoy some holiday goodness. 😉
I knew at the beginning of this year that I wanted to change things up in this space, but kept pushing it off with the excuse “I don’t have the time.” Cut to April of 2020 and literally all I had was time, so I started my research. Ty & I moved into this space at the beginning of 2018 and both of our styles have changed quite a bit since then. I no longer felt that our apartment represented who we were, but versions of our past selves. And so a change was definitely in order! We were going for more moody & neutral (who am I?!), with colorful accents versus just vibrant all the way through. You might remember, this is how our living room used to look.
I knew the first piece I wanted to start with was a sofa. As much as I loved our bright blue one, it just wasn’t the direction I wanted to go in. We wanted something modern & unique, but also cozy, warm, and inviting. And also NOT $4k lol.
And then I found Albany Park. I immediately fell in love with the Albany Sofa & matching ottoman in a beautiful Heather Gray kind of textured fabric. I liked that you could kind of “build your own” sofa. Pick out the style, color, legs, etc. And a HUGE deciding factor for me was if they were pet friendly, and I read that they were! After discovering all this, I reached out–first to their customer service department (which was a flawless experience), and I was sent a fabric sample and reassured that the items were indeed, very pet friendly (our couch before was not). Throughout my research, I had also learned that Albany Park was a Black & Asian-American owned, family run business, who prioritized diversity in their advertising. Knowing that they completely aligned with everything I wanted, product & belief-wise, I connected with their media department.
Our shipment arrived in just a couple of weeks, in just 3 boxes, which my husband and I put together in less than 30 minutes. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to reveal our new living space with you!
As I said, still colorful, but with a much softer, more neutral base. And you can see why the couch was so important to us! We live in a small space, because Los Angeles, so our sofa is really the centerpiece of our entire room. We wanted something that was thoughtfully designed, so that it could also endure multiple moves and room designs with us as well. 😉
